- Rosenwald, Lessing Julius
(1891-1979)
American merchant, bibliophile and philanthropist, son of Julius Rosenwald. He was born in Chicago, where he later worked for Sears, Roebuck and Company. In 1943 he helped to found the American Council for Judaism, and served as its president. Opposed to Zionism, he campaigned against the establishment of Israel.
